The “February” bulletin has been released. It includes details of case numbers that are current for March interviews.
Those that are current, and have forms processed early enough, they can expect their 2NL in about 1 to 2 weeks from now. I know I am going to get a lot of people who will ask me this exact question – so let me say that again. 2NLs will be sent in about one or two weeks time – that means the latter part of the month. The schedule is that VBs are published between the 8th and the 15th of each month, and 2NLs go out from the 15th to the end of the month (most typically around the 20th to 24th). This is the same every month, so there is no need to ask me.
To those new to looking at VBs, let me explain what the “except” XXX country means.
Processing is spread out over the full year. You can see the progress of the two previous years in this post about basic questions. However, some countries have a high number of selectees and those selectees are concentrated in the lower case numbers. For various reasons, mainly to do with embassy capacity, KCC slow down certain countries as compared to the region. So – in Africa, any case with a case number shown as under the new number can be interviewed but for cases from Egypt, that number is lower. That isn’t a big problem, it just “slows down” those countries a little more than the rest of the region. Since selectees from those countries all have lower case numbers, this slowing down does not present any risk. It does not (at this point) mean they won’t allow all selectees an interview from those countries.
To understand why some countries get lower case numbers, read this article about the lottery draw process.

January 16, 2018 at 18:34
Mr. Simon this mean no jump in Egypt as high rate of selects and success in interview and High density under 22000 as in the figure
January 16, 2018 at 18:36
Still numbers is disappointed in Egypt.. Rate is so slow.
January 16, 2018 at 18:21
OMG !!!!!!!!! Brits finally your beloved Akoto is expecting his 2nl.
Thanks be to GOD and of course you Britsimon, love you
January 16, 2018 at 18:43
Hahahahaha…..huge relief huh..? I can see. We pray for 2NL for March interview and successful interview as well – 2 last hurdles to cross. Thanks Brit for all your assistance, we hope for the best!
January 16, 2018 at 18:22
So my case number is 449x and I am not going to get 2nl this time???
January 16, 2018 at 18:35
Can you tell simon if its possible for is to get our 2nl with can 2018AS449X??
January 16, 2018 at 18:40
Simon does not work for the US embassy… and why the hell will you receive 2nl when the cut off is 4400 and your number exceeds it by 9X … the factor pissing me off is you can’t wait for another month and are crying like a baby… please care to read all the analysis that is done on this blog
January 17, 2018 at 00:51
???
January 16, 2018 at 19:03
The visa bulletin is clear it’s said below the specific cut off Ibrahim wait and every thing is gonna be just fine (AS is below 4400)…
January 16, 2018 at 19:08
So you mean we will not get our 2nl this month??
January 16, 2018 at 20:52
Yes I can tell you it is NOT POSSIBLE. 449X is higher than 4400. It’s that simple.
January 16, 2018 at 18:28
Doesn’t this year match more with 2007? (Im not very good in math, but was looking only at number progress)
January 16, 2018 at 18:30
If you have read my analysis you will understand that two years cannot safely be compared that way. Your number is in a risky range. All you can do is wait and see what happens.
January 16, 2018 at 18:39
please simon answer me really I lose any hope are u think 21600 from egypt in safe area please answer me.
U have contact with KCC and sure u have any information about range area
January 17, 2018 at 06:58
Don’t worry you have a chance for an interview on August as max. or before that on July. if the rate still like that. & be patience as Mr. Simon said.
January 16, 2018 at 18:30
I get you Tom, Im desperate too 🙁
January 16, 2018 at 18:34
Thanks ,honestly I wish I could understand everything in number analysis . I have lost all my hopes. My number doesn’t even feel like a real number anymore.
January 16, 2018 at 18:38
:(. Its the density that matters. If there are many holes, the numbers are likely to be higher- like in 2007. This year, there seem to be less holes and a higher density. Im also super mad that this had to happen this year, belive me.
January 16, 2018 at 18:53
So sad ,miracle is our only hope I guess ?
January 16, 2018 at 18:57
:/ which country are you from?
January 16, 2018 at 19:28
Albania
January 16, 2018 at 20:50
It’s more than just density. It’s the number of cases that matters either through low/high density or number of selectees AND quota AND derivative rate AND approval rate and so on. It’s daft to look at 2007 and try and compare.
January 16, 2018 at 18:46
What is your number?
January 16, 2018 at 19:43
Tom, what’s your CN?
January 16, 2018 at 19:49

January 16, 2018 at 19:57
Me 386xx too, let’s be high cn friends
January 16, 2018 at 18:39
Hi Simon,
I appreciate your work you do for so many people here.
Question: I have been selected UE217XX. I expect an interview around May/June/July. I am living in the UK, however, I am moving to Canada at end of March / beginning of April. I can’t change the date of my moving to Canada as it is determined by my employer. My wife will stay in the UK a little bit longer until end April (she is flexible, she can stay longer). Ideally, if we got the green card, we will be living and working in Canada with alien resident US status. At the moment I don’t know anyone in Canada and don’t have a permanent address there, I have only my company address which I could use now.
1. Where would be safer to schedule my interview, in Canada, or in the UK coming back just for the interview?
2. If I schedule an interview in Canada, then will I need a police certificate from Canada as well? (they probably won’t have any details)
3. If I schedule an interview in Canada, then will I have a medical check in Canada?
4. Of course, ideally I need to change the interview before my case is scheduled, therefore ideally I would change even before moving to Canada. Would it be okay to use my employer address in Canada as suppose the permanent address?
I will probably ask you the same question later in March / beginning of April when I am actually moving (and also after March VB). But do you have thoughts or ideas at this stage?
Many thanks in advance!
January 16, 2018 at 19:06
Simon can correct me if he feels I’m wrong, but if your plan is to live and work in Canada full time, you’re going to be jeopardizing your green card. It is intended as a path to residency (living, working) in the USA. I’d seriously consider re-evaluating your live/work plans.
Depending upon where your work is (Toronto or Vancouver are good examples) you could consider living on the US side of the border and telecommuting if that works for your job. But you MUST live primarily in the USA to keep your green card.
Once you have a Citizenship (Passport) in many years, then you may consider living and working in Canada (or elsewhere) while maintaining your US CITIZENSHIP (there are ongoing tax implications, but that’s a whole different topic) but that’s not something you should be planning to do right now.
January 16, 2018 at 20:10
Thanks for your input, Jenn.
I appreciate that, and indeed, I am going to evaluate my plans later this year once I have a green card in hand.
But I thought that alien resident status (or “alien commuter”) allows you to live in Canada or Mexico permanently maintaining some ties with US and visiting occasionally US, but just doesn’t allow you to count this period towards US citizenship. Maybe I am not correct, I haven’t studied this thoroughly yet.
Thanks again!
January 16, 2018 at 20:28
Just only wanted to add, that my partner doesn’t want to live in the US, that’s why we decided to move to Canada. But I personally don’t want to abandon this lottery and lose the green card. I hope to use this green card in the future.
January 16, 2018 at 21:03
If you don’t live in the USA, you will lose the GC sooner or later.
January 17, 2018 at 18:34
great ralf. just take 2 GC for your partner who doesnt want to live in the us, and for yourself, who has no clue and just wants it to “not abandon it”. There are people waiting who actually want it, you know.
January 16, 2018 at 21:03
GC is not an alien commuter card.
January 16, 2018 at 21:14
Hi Raf,
Full disclosure: Please know that I respond as a CANADIAN myself, so that’s where my experience and input comes from only, not as a US resident.
The “Alien Commuter” as you call it, allows you to LIVE outside of the USA while regularly WORKING inside the USA. You are deemed to have abandoned your residency status if you’re out of regular employment in the USA for 6+ months. I don’t know much about it beyond that, and as this is a DV forum I will stop there – but you should look into the nuances of this because I believe you have some misunderstandings, given that your plan seems to be to work in Canada.
January 16, 2018 at 21:52
Hi Jenn,
You’re right with the “Alien Commuter”. My interpretation wasn’t correct.
At the moment, I will need to focus on the interview. Yet, today, I signed a contract with my employer in Toronto and I am moving in two months, interview will be in approx. 4 months! And of course, later I will face a problem of losing green card while living in Canada, and I will have to find a way to keep it for at least 2-3 years and then move to USA, but that’s something to worry about later this year.
Thanks again for your reply and good luck to you with your GC!
January 16, 2018 at 20:48
1. Either.
2. You should read the instructions. You won’t have lived there for 6 months at that time – right?
3. You still need to give a US address. The GC is not a commuter card. It is for LIVING in the USA. I see there are other comments from you, so I will read those and reply.
January 16, 2018 at 20:54
Thank you, Simon!
The other comments are not really relevant as yet. First, I need to schedule and pass the interview. After that I will be worrying about other stuff.
Thank you, and God bless you!
January 16, 2018 at 18:42
AS Is going so slowly my case number is AS 654* I am losing hope ?
January 16, 2018 at 18:46
My number is 85xx I m almost certain I will reach the interview… your problem is basic maths and some analytical skills… trump would certainly look for more clever people to migrate to his country
January 16, 2018 at 20:44
Right. So it reached 4400 in 6 months. There are 6 months left and you are “losing hope”.
PATIENCE!
January 16, 2018 at 18:46
Africa seems to be moving at a snail pace,it does not make.sense that it will get to 30**** by June which is the next 3 months seeing that this bulletin is for the march interviews,Am I wrong brit?
January 16, 2018 at 20:41
Yes you are wrong. I have explained why in my recent analysis post.
January 16, 2018 at 18:51

I want an answer.
January 16, 2018 at 19:06

January 16, 2018 at 19:05
Wow Brits. This looks good for Africa. It seems to be closing the gap with previous years. OMG , Africa could go current if the progression stays this way.
January 16, 2018 at 19:06
EU speeds up a little bit……………great to see that
January 16, 2018 at 19:12
Hi Brit why is Africa slow the way it is. Is it going to increase in the later months
January 16, 2018 at 19:24
All explained here.

January 16, 2018 at 21:05
Wait and see.
January 16, 2018 at 19:51
Hello everyone!
in accordance to the latest numbers released I took some time and made my own analysis with the help of the awesome tool Xarthisius has made and the progress that was made so far. I calculated that the number of real cases (no holes in between) that the KCC releases for interviews is about 1,745 per month. So here are my predictions for the EU region:
APRIL – 16900
MAY – 20500
JUNE – 24500
JULY – 28500
AUGUST – 32500
SEPTEMBER – 37600.
About the last 160 real cases won’t make it to the interview.
Brit, what do you mean? Could that be right?
January 16, 2018 at 19:57
did you consider deritative growth rate?
January 16, 2018 at 20:01
also, the question is not only what number we will reach given 1,745 real cases a month,we also have to consider that the amount of visas are limited!!
January 16, 2018 at 20:06
Also approval rate , right?
January 16, 2018 at 20:11
yes
January 16, 2018 at 20:35
You guys have hopeful cn numbers. My number is dead
January 16, 2018 at 20:12
do you also have a high EU cn, nicole?
January 16, 2018 at 20:26
I do! CNxx35xxx. What about you, Rxy? We can comfort each other! 🙂
January 16, 2018 at 21:03
Are you planning CP or AOS?

January 16, 2018 at 20:35

January 16, 2018 at 20:39
you guys are safe, i have cn 37XXX. but i still bellive in.wish me luck 🙂
January 16, 2018 at 20:47
not sure if that is true, but I would love to belive it!
January 16, 2018 at 21:07
EU will get current because of the non response rate.think positive.its possiable
January 16, 2018 at 20:51
Never lose hope, Tom! So few cases will remain given that my analysis is right. They might decide to get it all done… You never know! I wish you best of luck
January 16, 2018 at 20:57
Nicole, you are focusing on pace of the VB. Take my overused analogy.
You have a 5 gallon bucket. You can fill it fast, or you can fill it slow, but either way it only holds 5 gallons.
The problem with DV2018 is not the pace. The pace of the VB is fine (and your method ignores response growth rate, but it’s OK other than that). However, the bucket still only holds 5 gallons.
January 16, 2018 at 21:17
I understand the analogy. There is only 50,000 visas available. Given that the quota is fulfilled in July, the process would stop? And I know this is 1000000$ question but when do you think the visas run out?
January 16, 2018 at 21:31
https://britsimonsays.com/dv2018-some-further-analysis/
January 17, 2018 at 04:28
Simon, Since you asked to Nicole if she is doing AOS or CP. Do you have any suggestion now for case number EU376xx should do AOS or CP. I know You and Mom don’t want to decide that for us but a suggestion would really help. PS. I decided on AOS for now but open to your comment.
January 17, 2018 at 05:48
AOS for late cases in an oversubscribed year is risky.
January 16, 2018 at 20:52
So we’re neighbors, Rxy! I love Germany, especially Berlin. Been there many many times, I love Lollapalooza festival! 🙂 Greetings from Prague xx
January 16, 2018 at 21:05
I’d move to Florida as I’ve spent there some time as a student. But who knows where would I end up 🙂 New York is amazing, been there once, totally loved it. Although I imagine is quite hard to be successful and earn a decent living there due to high taxes.
Forgot that I love Dresden and Nürnberg too 🙂 Tschüß!
January 16, 2018 at 21:22
Thanks Nicole for reviewing all the data and sharing this analysis. Really appreciate it and we all need to find ways to help Brit or at least we can try 🙂 I also did analysis for Europe since my sister has 27xxx and I had that number coming up in July so this seems very similar (gives me more confidence 🙂 ) … I think last 1-2 months will be hard to predict since final numbers will depend on the actual numbers of Visas issued and I think that people with number over 35xxx will just need to wait and see … I know how hard it is but not sure that more precise estimates will be possible but the only thing which is sure is that Brit will probably get 1000+ questions about this 🙂
January 16, 2018 at 21:43
Goran, I agree. Let’s wait and see. Good luck everyone! It’s nice to have a place where we can share our thoughts, worries and encouragement.
January 16, 2018 at 21:57
😉 lets hope for the best” praque is sooo nice! I was there 2 summers ago!
January 17, 2018 at 09:48

Why is the progress for Asia so slow this time? It only went up by like 300. Is that normal? Doesn’t seem that way from previous years. I’m like 6100 and something and not sure when or if my number will become current.
January 16, 2018 at 20:34
I really think I have explained that already. I can’t keep saying the same thing.
January 17, 2018 at 02:51
Sorry. I saw comments and analysis for Africa and Europe, but not for Asia. I may have missed that. Would you please refer me to that comment or article if there was any? I’m very worried. Thank you.
January 17, 2018 at 05:50
You can find my latest articles. Do that.
January 16, 2018 at 20:41
Thanks Brit. I’m from Albania too (EU) with high CN. The numbers is continued as you excepted, but to much xP. Hopefully next month we see EU with +4000 🙂

In your recent posts you are ****ASSUMING****
AF – 46600
Thank you for the quick response.
January 16, 2018 at 21:12
Also you mentioned it clearly below
Now – I know I am going to be flooded by people asking “am I safe” – so let me say this. There is NO POINT in worrying or asking me if you are safe if your numbers are below these numbers.
AF45XXX (Egypt may have a cutoff)
EU37XXX
AS8XXX (Nepal could be considered safe below AS7000)
OC13XX
SA15XX
Thank you for the efforts.
January 16, 2018 at 21:08

As I see, for Asia 2018 is going to be look like 2016 regardless of under of select or over select. The graphs are literary coinciding now. Eventually, It may validate Brit’s safe cn for asia as 9600.
My speculations are just for being positive, lol, I will let the professionals to decide, I wish you all the best
January 17, 2018 at 00:37
Hi Brit,
Well, 13800 is still LOW for EU region ?. I was expecting something around 14000-14400 as you said..
• As we see on the chart, starting from around EU 10700 to around EU 18900 there’s no jump.. around 4000 numbers left for my turn, so could we expect a good jump for the April VB or nah?
Your answer is always appreciated, Mr.Brit
January 17, 2018 at 00:42
You have the charts, and the data. You can guess.
January 17, 2018 at 05:18

Why Trump is so oppsessed with cancellation of DV lottery? Does he not have other tasks to do? It seems US empire is in free fall.

He is a “simple” man with “simple” understanding.

Hey Brit, AF219** do you think i will I make the cut for the next V.B ? I know I shouldn’t be asking but it’s six VBS now out , any analysis of the AF V.B pace and expectation? Should we continue to wait and see? Thank you for your invaluable work as always.
January 17, 2018 at 05:49
Yes – wait and see is the correct answer.
January 17, 2018 at 05:19
Dear sir my case numberis AS32**. Do i get chance to face interview . On what basis second letter will be issuse
January 17, 2018 at 05:47
If you are current and your DS260 is processed, you get an interview.
January 17, 2018 at 06:19
Thank you, thank you BritSimon real appreciate your updates and help. FINALLY I’m current ?
January 17, 2018 at 06:23
Hi Brit, Thanks for the good work you do and being patient with our never ending questions. I have one for you today. Please bear with me.
My CN is AF13XXX. If I submit my DS today when can I expect it to be processed and whats the probable interview date. I have solved 624 CAPTCHAs so far. I hope this gets me an elaborate answer.
January 17, 2018 at 14:39
Even with 6000 CAPTCHAS I can’t give you a good answer. The processing time of DS260s varies – so it is really “wait and see”.
January 17, 2018 at 19:22
Hahaha.
Thank you for the candor. Continue the good work.

Slayqueen you almost current,dont panick
January 17, 2018 at 06:59
Hi BritSimon, finally am current this month. I want to ask a few questions regarding my financial sponsor.
As you know that the tax year started; my queries are
1. Do I need to ask my sponsor to file his 2017 tax before march? and if yes, will she gets her filing approved before my interview?
2. my sponsor said already that she got her 2017 W2 mailed to her. If I don’t need her to file her tax before march, shall I take the W2 of 2017 and use her 2016 tax. or I need to have everything from 2016
Thank for your continuous guidance & Awaiting your reply
January 17, 2018 at 14:41
1. That is up to the sponsor.
2. W2 is good, and might be OK without the 1040
January 17, 2018 at 07:29
Hi BRIT, When do you predict my case will be tentatively current ? My case is AF370XX 2) Does the time of filling and submitting DS260 matter in the actual processing ?
January 17, 2018 at 14:42
1. I don’t know.
2. No
January 17, 2018 at 07:58
Hi Brit waw thank you for your updating for those waiting of VB.
Dear sir we have got the approved stamped passport before .
1. i was a winner of dv 2018 and we take medication December 4,2017 both me and my wife
2. we interviewed January 9,2018 and issued on our passport January 10,2018
but my question is
1. my visa expired , i am a winner on 27 may 2018 almost less than 5 months
even the expire date make confusion to count from the medical or the approval neither of it
is any problem
2. my wife visa expired 09, July 2018 which is exactly six month from date of approval
Thank you your assistance
