For those just being selected, you may not yet fully understand the importance of your case number. Your number is specific to your region, each region starting from 1. So there is an 2019AF1, 2019AS1, 2019EU1 and so on. The regions go up to different maximum numbers, with 1 being the lowest in each region. The number dictates when you will be interviewed, low numbers are interviewed before high numbers. Whether your number is high or low is relative within a region to the highest numbers in that region – so it is helpful in these early days to start getting an idea of what case numbers are out there.
So – please report your case number as a reply to this thread. Give your number in slightly hidden format – ignoring the leading zeros, and hiding the last 2 or 3 digits. So case number 2019AF000012345 would be shown as 2019AF12XXX. SA and OC regions have lower ranges, so just hide the last two digits – so 2019OC000001234 becomes 2019OC12XX. Always quote your number that way on public forums.
Please also give your country you are charged to (typically country of birth).

Hi – Just leaving my case number as requested to do so in this thread
2019AF22XXX – charge country South Africa.
I suppose I do have one question as I don’t really get the whole high/low number aspect … Is this a low number ? Or as I think I understand it – it is too early to tell ? In that case – has it been a low number in the past ? ( sorry – I see that was 3 questions)
Thanks Simon for the great work and good luck to all
May 20, 2018 at 08:53
Read other responses from AF region. Low or high is relative to the entire range.

Hi Simon. I won the 2019 DV lottery. My Old Passport expired in April, and currently I am following up procedure to obtain a new international passport. My question then is: “Can I used my old expired passport to fill the DS260 or must I wait to have the new passport before filling the DS260 ?”
May 20, 2018 at 20:53
It won’t matter if you wait, but you can use the old one and correct it later.
May 20, 2018 at 21:02
Wow Simon, tanks for your speedy reply. Can’t appreciate u enough.
Pls I wish to know: how do I correct it later, is it by filling a new DS260 when I have got the new passport?
May 21, 2018 at 00:18
No – unlock and correct. You can refer to the FAQ for instructions.

When you understand what you are doing.
May 21, 2018 at 04:15
2019AF26XXX – South Africa.
Evan london, if you look at previous stats, my best guess is that your interview will be April, mine just after that. Previous stats might not be a good indication for DV2019 because of the restarted entry period, which I’m sure will have an influence.
May 21, 2018 at 04:38
It is too early to know anything.
May 21, 2018 at 08:32
i received my 2nl yesterday from KCC and i tried to register for a visa appointment on the consular site but i couldn`t. it tells me my case is not yet scheduled for an internb .:
nb : i was not told to book an appointment on the consular site on my 2nl . during my research i found out that dv cases interviewed at the US embassy in Abu Dhabi always register an appointment on the consular site prior to the interview
May 21, 2018 at 14:15
Wait for a week or so.
May 21, 2018 at 20:02
Hi There,
Same here and solved, text the email address indicated in the error message and they will update your case status to be able to schedule your appointment; exactly as instructed in the error message that pops up when you click submit…
Good luck…
May 21, 2018 at 14:31
Would you say the restarted entry resulted in more or less entries and selectees? I think less entries, same amount of selectees.
May 21, 2018 at 17:08
@Heidi556 – thanks for the feedback .. and good luck! and Simon – I get it. Understood. Thanks
May 21, 2018 at 05:07
thanks for this service:
I must have made an error during submission (maybe chrome autofill) since I was born in South Africa, and resident in Singapore but I’ve found myself selected in the Asia group.
My case number is also quite high – i suppose i should abandon the attempt?
Case Number: 2019AS146xx
Foreign State Chargeability: SINGAPORE
May 21, 2018 at 16:18
Obviously you selected Singapore for chargeability. If you have no reason to charge to Singapore, then you should give up – they cannot approve your case.
May 21, 2018 at 05:08
Hey mate,
2019 OC5XX here. Australia.
I have completed and submitted my DS260.
I am currently in the process of applying for my O1 when I was drawn in the DV lottery. My O1 was sent off the same day as the results were announced. Seeing as though i’m still in Australia, and my O1 is yet to be approved, I listed Sydney being my consulate, etc.
Once i’m based in the states on my O1, do I then need to unlock my DS260, and add in the one way extra trip (or round trip, if I decide to do consular processing, rather than AOS)? Would i then need to update the last visa i had as being the O1, rather than my B1/B2 I was on previously? It gets a bit confusing for me, in terms of the details that need to be on the DS260, and, obviously, I don’t want to give any reason to be refused.
Can you foresee any problems I might face, if i decide to go back to Australia to process at my home consulate? Has anyone else done this? Why do birds suddenly appear? Etc.
Thanks mate. I tried (and failed) to find answers to this, so apologies if this is a repeat.
May 21, 2018 at 16:16
Other people have done CP in that scenario. I cannot understand what you are thinking will be a problem.
May 21, 2018 at 22:40
Thanks for your reply.
I’m more concerned about timing of unlocking DS260 – if indeed I have to do that, and if the previous visa info needs to be updated, and dates of traveling to US, once I’m based there.
When might you have a clearer idea of CN’s over the OC region? (Also, like everyone, just a chronic worrier – should fix that! haha).
May 21, 2018 at 22:44
There is nothing to be concerned about with your number. Again. Overthinking. Just relax!
May 21, 2018 at 08:06

I’m from Nepal.
***Edited all your personal data***
WHAT SHALL I DO?
May i go further for 2nd letter or not
May 21, 2018 at 14:19
First thing you should do is learn some common sense. You put ALL your private data into this message – which would have been posted for all to see. Protect your data!
Next – read the lottery guide above, and take some time to understand the process.
May 22, 2018 at 05:37

Good night brit
I got vocational and technician school diploma but I would like to know if I am eligible for the dv process with that level of education ?
May 22, 2018 at 03:03
Vocational education does not help meet the requirements. They look for general education.
May 22, 2018 at 06:41
Do they accept a GED diploma as my level of education?
May 22, 2018 at 14:01
No
May 22, 2018 at 10:06
Wite and see my friend just W&S
May 22, 2018 at 10:44
Wait until SEP 2018 and in that month first bulltan of 2019 “OCT visa bulltan” will published so if the number front AFRICA is equal or bigger than your CN “6XX” your appointment will be schedule in OCT if not wait until your number will show up.
Your CN is low so no risks just fill ds260 early when you ready so kcc can process it.
May 22, 2018 at 13:43
The first bulletin for DV2019 is published in August.
May 22, 2018 at 12:08
Hi, Brit,
Please help answer the following Qs:
1. What dates I should write for class attendance? Ending date can be Date of issue of Transcript?
2. I studied +2 and bachelor in the same school. Will it be two or one as No. of Institution?
3. If there are simple mistakes in terms of date while filling the form while I still have the genuine educational transcripts. will it be a problem?
4. Is it better to submit DS-260 earlier? Is there any deadline?
Thanks and Regards,
Shyam
May 22, 2018 at 13:34
1. Use your judgement.
2. I would write that as 2.
3. No
4. No
May 25, 2018 at 05:59
Hi Brit,
Thank you.
1. What is the use of ADD DS260?
2. Can we add some family member (in the question do you have children?)like a daughter who was not entered in the original entry?
May 25, 2018 at 14:11
1. To add derivatives.
2. IF you mean a newborn – yes
May 25, 2018 at 14:24
1. Already born before the lottery form fill up.
2. I write but cant speak English well, will this affect me in interview?

Wait and see. There are two VBs left for DV2018.
May 23, 2018 at 07:27
Okey but again, is my case number too high? Kindly help me understand because I don’t understand ” high and low”
Just want to know if mine is high, only that.
May 23, 2018 at 13:51
Well – you can read other case numbers here and decide whether your number is higher than most other AF region numbers or lower.
May 22, 2018 at 14:52
Hi BritSimon, I have a question regarding my mom and sister who are winners of DV 2019.
My mom won the green card lottery for the first time in 2015 but her number was high AS12*** so she didn’t receive an interview letter. this year, God blessed her again and won the DV 2019 with a low number AS48**.
My mom and my sister (14 yo) are Syrians who where at the time of the first wining residing in Lebanon. however, they now live in Canada as refugees and i live in the US. that’s why i applied for them again so i can bring them over to live with me in America.
Their Syrian passports are expired but they still have them, My mom and sister can get a refugee travel document from the Canadian Government since they are refugees and both of them qualify to apply for the Canadian citizenship in the beginning of 2019 (they should have their Canadian passports by May 2019).
So my question is: in your opinion, which passport should they use for the visa? and which passport information should they use when filling out the DS 260? the only available passports for now are the expired Syrian passports and the Canadian refugee travel documents (A Passport-like doc)?
Note: renewing their Syrian passports is impossible since all Syrian embassies/Consulates in Canada and the US are closed.
Thanks you man,
May 22, 2018 at 17:05
Due to the travel ban, I suggest waiting to submit the DS260 to delay the interview until after the Canadian passports are available.
May 22, 2018 at 17:39
Thank you BritSimon, i’m not actually worried about the Travel ban because anyway my mom and sister will probably have an exemption from the ban since they are permanent residents in Canada and they are going to be applying for the visa at a location inside Canada, please see below quote from the wording in the exemption section of the latest Ban.
“Case-by-case waivers may not be granted categorically, but may be appropriate, subject to the limitations, conditions, and requirements set forth under subsection (i) of this subsection and the guidance issued under subsection (ii) of this subsection, in individual circumstances such as the following: .(A)..(B) ….. (H) the foreign national is a Canadian permanent resident who applies for a visa at a location within Canada”
https://www.whitehouse.gov/presidential-actions/presidential-proclamation-enhancing-vetting-capabilities-processes-detecting-attempted-entry-united-states-terrorists-public-safety-threats/
So the question remains: Given that they are not impacted by the ban, can they still use a refugee travel document for the visa and supply their expired Syrian passports at the time of the interview just as a proof that they are Syrian citizens? the other question is: in this case, which passport information should they use for DS260?
Thanks,
Amer
May 22, 2018 at 18:54
My point was that they should have the permanent residency document (best form being the passport) – because you said they were refugees. If they have perm resident status already then use the valid document they have.

Hello Brit,
Is it a ”must” to go to that state first, where we mentioned our address in US or we can go to an another state as well?
May 22, 2018 at 22:54
Go anywhere.
May 29, 2018 at 08:29
Hey Brit,
Me and my wife had interview today in Almaty. They asked about the proof before marriage. We said we can send photos, they gave their email adress to send photos to. Now I checked the CEAC site our case is in AP now. My question: how long does it usually take? And what are their decision usually?
May 29, 2018 at 16:05
There is no “usually”. Times vary, decisions vary.
May 23, 2018 at 02:01
Hello Simon,
My husband and I won the DV2019. I have a daughter who is 7 years old from my past relationship. My husband have decided that we include her. But she is still carrying her father’s name. Will it not be a problem for us? Seeing that she will not be carrying my husband last name?
May 23, 2018 at 04:43
No, that is not a problem.

Hi Brit
For the question of (full name in native alphabet) which in my case is Arabic, should I write it in Arabic? Putting in perspective all my official documents are available in English alphabet.

· Do you seek to enter the United States for the purpose of performing skilled or unskilled labor but have not yet been certified by the Secretary of Labor? I have mechanical engineering bachelor degree and master of business administration, I do also have five years of experience in the automotive industry, how should I answer this question, please advise.
May 23, 2018 at 13:10
1. Your choice
2. THat is fine.
3. Answer yes.

We don’t know yet.
May 23, 2018 at 10:34
Hi Brit,
My case number is 2019OCxx. So that is quite low I guess? Does a low case number mean that I am able to delay submitting my DS 260? What would be your estimated latest date I can submit and still not miss out on the greencard? If I have a low number am I pretty likely to get through?
May 23, 2018 at 14:54
You could delay until about May 2019.
May 24, 2018 at 02:30
Hi Brit,
Thanks for being so quick with your reply. What a relief! So, my case number being under a hundred should mean that if I get everything done correctly and in by May next year I will get the greencard? I want to submit late as I just got engaged and want to marry before submitting the DS260. 🙂
May 23, 2018 at 12:05
Hello There – while I do understand that we have to input information correctly, I am 200% sure that I have and I am still getting the following message
“The information entered is not valid. Please review the Confirmation Number, your Last/Family Name, and Year of Birth to ensure you have entered them exactly as they appear on your DV Confirmation Page, including punctuation.”
What can I do at this point? Because no errors are being made on my part.
May 23, 2018 at 15:06
I am 2000% sure (since we are abusing percentages) you are making a simple mistake. Read the link below

May 23, 2018 at 15:23
Hello BritSimon,
My case number is 2019EU8XXX.
I have a question, I made a mistake while filling in the entry form, for the part “country where you live today”. Is it a problem if I write a different country in my DS260 form? Thank you in advance!
May 23, 2018 at 16:27
No.
May 23, 2018 at 20:30
Hi again!
I have a question: as I said previous, I’m a DV lottery winner with pretty high number. So, I will wait for interview approximately a year. I have current tourist US visa. Can I travel to the US during this year before my interview will be scheduled? And If I can, should I change my DS260 after that trip or I just can add this information during my interview? Thanks in advance!
May 23, 2018 at 21:46
Yes you can travel while waiting.
Updating is best, but not 100% necessary.
May 23, 2018 at 22:10
Thank you so much! Will an updating of DS260 delay my interview?
May 23, 2018 at 22:17
Typically no.
May 23, 2018 at 22:31
Thanks again!
May 23, 2018 at 22:10
Hi Brit,
My case number is 2019OCXXXX(under 800). (Australia)
i am currently living in Calgary Canada
is there any other US Consulate processing DV Visas/Interviews beside Montreal?
When filling DS-260 it will give me the option to select another consulate.. So, I did selected Vancouver as it is closest to Calgary.. do you see any problem on this?
May 23, 2018 at 22:17
You will be scheduled at Montreal.
May 23, 2018 at 22:21
Dear Brit,
thanks for the prompt response
so, should i unlock DS-260 and revert back to Montreal? or system will take care of that?
May 23, 2018 at 22:23
They will ignore your selection.
May 23, 2018 at 22:34
My number is AS13XXX, from my understanding after reading your blog posts, I seem to have very little chance to get interview, is that right?
May 23, 2018 at 23:12
DV2019??
It is too early to know that.
May 23, 2018 at 23:17
Hey Simon,
AS2XXX from Japan. DS260 submitted today. If all goes smoothly, and according to your diligent (and most appreciated work) I have a slight chance of being interviewed in October using your historical analysis, and both the holes and late applicants theories. Is my understanding correct? Since it is a Mid 2,000 number coupled with a high response rate I may be looking at a November interview.
With that said, I have a few questions for you:
1. Is the email address entered on the DS260 crucial information? I ask because despite both of us spending hours thoroughly checking, we overlooked that the email address inputted on my wife’s (derivative) application was wrong and is registered to someone else. (Case of mixing up domain names – she owns the username but on a different domain). Should this warrant an unlock? As I am the primary applicant I would assume all email notifications do not have any critical information and would be sent to me as well or they would be viewable by logging in regularly.
2. Should I wait for the 2NL to schedule the medical exams?
May 23, 2018 at 23:31
1. Not a big problem. No need to fix.
2. Yes
May 23, 2018 at 23:54
2019EU00019XXX, Russia
Thanks for all the info.
Just want to check if I got this right:
the chance of getting an interview is higher the lower your case number, and the chance doesn’t depend on when you submitted DS-260.
May 24, 2018 at 01:02
Correct.
May 24, 2018 at 03:22
AS140xx, it seems like an extremely high case number.
May 24, 2018 at 07:33
Hi Brit, thank you for this site. My confirmation number is 2019OC2XX. What is the latest date I could submit the DS260 form and still not miss out on the greencard, in your estimation?
May 24, 2018 at 14:47
May 2019.
