hi Brit,
I have won the Dv2021 lottery and I am from Nepal, I am just worried as I just learned about case numbers and mine is around 2021AS90##. I won’t ask you what are my chances as it is too early to predict. I just want to know how high a case number have you heard from Nepal ?? Thank u so much for your help
June 10, 2020 at 22:51
Yours is not that high
June 10, 2020 at 07:27
Hi Brit Simon,
first of all, thank you providing us all the information.
I am from Sri Lanka and my query is as follows;
After the DV entry form was submitted last year, two of my kids’ had gone through name alterations [under the 13th column in Sri Lanka Birth certificate] recently via the relevant Divisional Secretariat Office in Sri Lanka.
At the time of submitting the form names were different from current and I would like to know which names to be used, the older or the newer after amendment on the DS-260 form.
Thank you
Harith
June 10, 2020 at 23:06
On the DS260 use the current legal name and list other names in the other names used section.

Hello Simon
I won DV 2020. I submitted documents to KCC a few weeks ago. However, I recently got a new passport as the old one expired in May. How do I send the new copy to them?
Also, I am unable to collect my new police clearance because of the lockdown. I have a 2015 one. Is that fine for now? Will they accept it?
June 10, 2020 at 23:09
No need to send the new passport, just show old and new at the interview.
No you cannot use a 5 year old police cert, assuming you have been in that country since 2015.
June 10, 2020 at 08:38
Hi Simon!I won the 2021 lottery with a pretty high case number 2021OC2XXX. If I submit a DS-260 but end up not getting an interview because the visas run out will that affect my chances of 1. Renewing the O1 artist visa that I’m currently on and 2. Applying for a green card again later on down the track?
June 10, 2020 at 23:18
1. Yes, some impact, not a deal breaker, but a factor.
2. No
June 10, 2020 at 08:47
Dear Brit,
Thanks for all the assistance, guidance you have given so far. My CN is 2020AS28xxx, from Sri Lanka. Some of our friends have received the documents confirmation email in the first week of this month. Their CNs are in AS22xxx range. Now
ave another concern now. As I aware the general practice is sending out the documents confirmation email in the first week of the month and 2NLs in the 3rd or 4th week of the same month. And the interview date is 1.5 months after the 2NL.
So if 23xxx CNs received the documents confirmation email in July, won’t other CNs have time to receive documents confirmation email and 2NLs. Because all those need around 2.5 months. Even if the embassy has the capability of conducting interviews due to the above practice, won’t we receive the documents confirmation email and 2NL?
Thanks in advance!

Hi emcpk88, i would like to have a chat with you regarding the process and clarification which i require, if you don’t mind please let me know.
June 10, 2020 at 23:20
Embasssies are closed. Interviews are not being scheduled. There is obviously risk – but it’s hard to say who will be interviewed and who won’t be.
June 10, 2020 at 09:00
Hello Mr. Brit, today I called KCC (EU52 × × ×) to find out if my documents were received, they said yes, we received them. What can I do if I call next week?
June 10, 2020 at 19:13
Before they said that they cannot see documents untill it’s already processed. Are your documents already confirmed?
June 11, 2020 at 00:55
That seems to be changing – the answers are getting a little better.
June 10, 2020 at 23:21
Wait a while. Ask again before the end of the month.
June 10, 2020 at 09:32
Hi Simon,
My spouse is a full-time father (taking care of 3 children) and a part-time freelance designer for the past 5 years, how should I fill out his occupation for his current job like Primary occupation/company address/supervisor?
Also, does my spouse also need to meet finance requirement or show his finance document doing interview?
Thanks a lot
Moon
June 10, 2020 at 23:23
1. “freelance designer”
2. An I-134 is the safest bet. https://britsimonsays.com/all-about-public-charge-affidavit-of-support-i-134/
June 10, 2020 at 09:45
Hi Simon, I saw that dv visas were issued in April. 4 in Sydney. I’m in Oceania and had a cancelled interview for March 14. Do you know how this would be possible? https://travel.state.gov/content/dam/visas/Statistics/Immigrant-Statistics/MonthlyIVIssuances/APRIL%202020%20-%20IV%20Issuances%20by%20Post%20and%20Visa%20Class.pdf
June 10, 2020 at 23:24
AP cases from earlier months. Not a mystery.
June 10, 2020 at 10:11
Hi Brit, I registered for dv 2021 but unfortunately wasn’t selected and would like to try my luck again this year. What I want to know is that,I’m with only a high school certificate and with three kids…I’m I safe to go ahead and register come October this year or should I go ahead for a higher certificate?
June 10, 2020 at 23:26
You can enter – anyone can. But if you are selected you have to meet the requirement – but that is a LONG time from now.
June 10, 2020 at 10:19
Hi Simon, I’m a winner of the dv2021, however the passport I registered during the first application was going to expire this next august , and I had to request a new one (which I got) because of work reasons.
Is this gonna cause any problem for continuing the application of the green card?
Thanks
June 10, 2020 at 10:41
Forgot to say that at the police station they took the old one, and probably destroyed it. I still have good quality scans of it, if that matters.
June 10, 2020 at 23:26
No. You will show old and new passports during the process.
June 10, 2020 at 10:31
Hi Simon,
I’m the winner of DV 2020. First I was single and after May I met my wife. We got married after two months and I add her on Ds260 as my spouse.
We are living together for 8 months.
Does the fact that we met after DV result, will has a negative effect in our interview?
Our relationship is real and we love each other. As we are living together we know everything for each other.
What do you think about out situation?
Thank you very much,
Kevi.
June 10, 2020 at 23:27
No, that’s OK if the relationship is genuine.
June 10, 2020 at 10:45
Hi Simon,
Many thanks for this resourceful blog. No words can express your knowledge generosity. Best wishes in all you do and many thanks to your familly for sharing you with the rest of the world.
I have been selected for the DV2021 with case number right below AF27,000 which I think is relatively not too high. I intend to submit DS260 after the July VB but I will need your help in clalifying the part where I have to answer if i was once a member of a Communist Party, I was once a member of a socialist party for convinience purposes when I attempted to stand as member of parliament under this party between 2014 and 2016. The question is should I say yes to having once been a member of a socialist party, which in actual sense is not a Communist Party but a left party?
June 10, 2020 at 23:31
Socialism is not communism.
June 10, 2020 at 10:51
Hi Simon,
I’m in the Balkans, i have a question regarding DV2020. I’m waiting for an interview to be scheduled. Ive got the confirmation email/OK for documents.
1. As we’re all current in europe, (my CN is EU205XX) , from who should we get the interview date, from the embassy or KCC ?
2. If they dont schedule us the interview date, when the embassy reopens in our country, is it ok to call them on phone and ask them?
June 10, 2020 at 23:33
1. KCC
2. No – they won’t know anything about you.
June 10, 2020 at 10:52
Hi Brit, please when is the Trump ban of 60 days supposed to end?
2)And can those who submitted their DS260 earlier in 2019 have an upper hand now?
Thank you.
June 10, 2020 at 23:33
1. June 23
2. No
June 10, 2020 at 10:59
Hello sir, I am from Nepal. i got dv lottery for 2021 but my case number is 95***. Could you please predict my possiblities to get 2NL? Thank you sir. This website is very helpful
June 10, 2020 at 23:35
Your number is NOT 95XXX – probably 2021AS95XX. That’s ok – but you will wait until well in to 2021
June 10, 2020 at 11:04
Hi Brit, whenever the ban is lifted, will there by an advantage for those who submitted a DS260 earlier than the others?
June 10, 2020 at 23:36
No.
June 10, 2020 at 11:06
I entered my confirmation number,Name before the comma (last name) and DOB as printed on the confirmation print-out. But the system keeps popping with the error message “information entered is not valid). Is there any problem withe the system or what? I’ve been checking for 4 or 5 days now and I keep getting the same error.
June 10, 2020 at 23:36

June 10, 2020 at 11:15
Greetings Brit.
Thank you very much for the sacrifice of reading everything here and providing answers to those worries. In fact without you many of us will be grustfrusted we thank God for giving you to us. I an DV 2020 and was already scheduled, by every indication and according to the DV prosse my case is now at the level of the embassy. But;
1- If the KCC wee to cancel the DV 2020 Godforbit! will it still affect our cases that are already in the hands of the embassy?
2- The DV visa follows under which caterigory of Immigrants Ivisa(s)
3- what is the difference between DV lottery Immigrants Visa and EB-5 Immigrants Visa.
Thank you very much for your help and effort to all of us. To my fellow DV 2020 please let our hope be the last thing that dies…
June 10, 2020 at 23:38
1. No one is suggesting DV2020 will be cancelled. If embassies reopen you will be rescheduled.
2. DV
3. About $1 Million

Hello, Brit
This year I was randomly selected! I completed the DS 260 and I already sent it , but I realised, I made a mistake. The idea is I been before in USA for 4 times ( 2016/2017/2018 and 2019 as a J1’s student ) but when I was asking about my Travel in USA ( in DS 260) I put only 2019 travel , but also in Work experice category, I put all my experience since 2016 untill 2019. So Sir, my question is , shoud I send them an email for unlock my DS 260 , or is not a big mistake and I can explain the mistake to them in the interview?
Thank you very much for your help!
June 11, 2020 at 00:03
Unlock.
June 10, 2020 at 12:34
Hi Brit,
I have a friend who didn’t have a passport at the entry and he wins the lottery of 2021 and now he have a passport but can he continue
June 11, 2020 at 00:10
He will probably be disqualified. That isn’t 100% certain yet – because we don’t know for sure how strict they will be about the new rule, but I think it is likely they will be strict.
June 10, 2020 at 12:54
Hello Simon I’m a winner of 2018 and currently living in FL. I’m really thankful for your effort and info helped me to get here.
One of my friends won the 2021 dv. He has Yemeni citizenship, born and live in Saudi Arabia for his whole life, however, due to the fact he have the Yemeni Passport he is currently banned as you know.
My question is the following:
Is there anyway he can pass through the ban? For example if he have a relative in the US can this take away the band from his way to get to the States.
Also is it possible that the band going to end, if yes, do think it’s going to be finished before June 2021 ? Finally can you give me some resources that I can read more about this subject?
I’m really looking forward for him to come and join me in the US as he is my friend for more than 10 years.
Thank you very much.
June 11, 2020 at 00:16
If Trump loses the election (which becomes more likely every time he opens his mouth), then Biden will probably remove the bans.
That is about the best chance your friend has.
June 10, 2020 at 13:19
Hello Brit,
I tried to fill my DS260 from but got an error called ” your request cannot be processed at this time”. What does this mean?? Is that because of case number?? MY case no is 7391.
June 11, 2020 at 00:17
Others are receiving the same mistake. Wait a few days.
June 10, 2020 at 13:26
Hi Brit, first of all thank you so much for all the help you’re providing. I just wanted to know: I am number EU21XXX. Is it a low number or high? I Know we don’t have all the information yet but based on the info from the past years.
Thanks a lot!
June 11, 2020 at 00:18
It’s good.
June 10, 2020 at 14:01
Hey,
when i signed in for DS 260 it says, ‘Your request cannot be processed at this time’. what does that means?
June 11, 2020 at 00:19
There seems to be a system problem at the moment – wait a few days.
June 10, 2020 at 15:02
Dear sir, I’m in the process of filling the DS-260 and I came across a confusing question. The question states “Have you traveled to any countries/regions within the last five years?” but it resides inside section Additional Work/Education/Training Information. And there is a note saying ‘Provide the following work, education, or training related information’ I have been to some countries with my spouse within the last 5 years only for leisure. Should I answer Yes or No?
June 11, 2020 at 00:28
Just answer the question itself. Don’t try and interpret it.
June 11, 2020 at 03:08
Got it! Thank you!
June 10, 2020 at 15:14
Hello sir Brit. Can kcc send someone an email requesting to submit documents before he /she completes and submits form DS260?
June 11, 2020 at 00:30
Yes
June 10, 2020 at 15:15
Hey Brit,
Greetings to Sofia, she has a great father 🙂
Just a pop out question , i took a look on your visa Bulletin page, but why in 2015 the cases numbers were low? Specially in Asia? Was there some-kind of special situation.
June 11, 2020 at 00:32
Numbers are higher now because there are more holes. The video below explains.

If he failed to add his derivatives (wife or kids) to the original entry he will be disqualified.
June 10, 2020 at 16:51
Hello BritSimon,
Hope you are doing well, I’m Abderrahmen from Algeria and I would like to thank you for the effort that you make to help people reach their dreams. In fact, I have been selected for the DV 2021 and I don’t have a sponsor yet, could I fill the DS 260 without a sponsor and the American Address, and what is the deadline for submitting the DS 260.
Could you help me to find a sponsor to process my application.
June 11, 2020 at 00:44
You need a US address.
You will later need a financial sponsor – and no I cannot help with that.
June 11, 2020 at 07:55
Thanks for your reply, could I fill the DS- 260 then later put the address and the Sponsor ?
Best regards,
June 11, 2020 at 22:00
You need a US address.
June 10, 2020 at 18:52
Hello,
I have applied for the DV Lottery and was selected. The problem is that I recall putting married, instead of divorced when I sent my application. I actually am divorced from my first wife, and I have been living with my partner for the past 6 years, have a 5-year-old boy and expecting a second boy in October 2020. Now, I know that I have to get married with my partner in order to make her come with me and the boys (of course, I am approved). But will the divorce document and the marriage certificate with my partner be enough? Or could we get denied for that? Of course we can prove that we have been living together since 2014.
Looking forward to your reply.
June 11, 2020 at 00:53
Huh?
So when you entered married, that would have meant that you then listed you EX wife, gave all her details and her photo. Do you think the COs will believe you forgot that you were actually divorced???
Did you include the 5 year old or did you forget that too?
June 11, 2020 at 13:19
I actually was not he one who made the application. There was a person in our area that asked for our passports, photos and details, so that he would apply for us. It was the first time I ever applied, and I was recommended to go to him. I know he has added my partner, because why would he ask me her details (Although, he applied for her too), so we had two different DV Lottery confirmation numbers. And yes, the child was added.
June 12, 2020 at 00:08
So this gets worse. In reality you were divorced. But you claimed to be married, and then listed your partners as your wife. But you are not married to your partner.
I don’t see any way you will avoid disqualification.
June 10, 2020 at 19:12
Simon,
Is a case processable (including medical and interview) even outside of your country of cheargeablity? For instance, in case someone relocates abroad for work.
Thank you
June 11, 2020 at 00:54
Yes
June 10, 2020 at 19:19
Hello,
I am a winner of Dv2020 with the case number 2020EU418×× from Albania.
What do you think I have any chance for interview?
I have not received yet the confirmation email.
Thank you in advance!
June 11, 2020 at 00:56
I don’t know. The embassies are still closed and we don’t have enough time for all the remaining cases.
June 10, 2020 at 19:28
HELo simon i al 2020 dv lottery winner in this day may intervew day is march 17 but in this day is close but next day is open and aske may case tell me
June 11, 2020 at 00:56
If the embassies reopen you should be rescheduled.
June 10, 2020 at 19:53
Hello Brit, I followed Russian language training, should I mention this training in the Ds260
June 11, 2020 at 00:57
Sure.
June 10, 2020 at 19:59
Hello Simon
Pls advise me i wonder how people keep on stating that if ur number is xxxthen is high or vise versa how can they be so certain now? is it that case numbers are selected from 1 each time so that if u have number 80 is too high i thot winning case numbers are selected randomly meaning u cud have a 90 which may end up being smaller depending on which numbers were picked?
June 11, 2020 at 00:57
They are not “certain”. We need more info to be certain.
June 10, 2020 at 20:34
Hello Brit! I completed the DS-260 form in November and received the automatic confirmation from KCC. Today I called KCC and asked if they were okay, but they replied that the scanned documents had not been sent. I sent it again today, and again I received an automatic email. Please can you tell me something about this case and how many chances I have. My Cn is DV2020EU 54000. Thank you.
June 11, 2020 at 01:00
Your case is obviously at risk. Many cases are – there is not enough time to interview all the cases, and having made a mistake with documents you have lessened your chances.
June 11, 2020 at 07:42
Hi Britt, how come you can state that the winner, DV2020EU54000 made a mistake with his the documents? He doesn’t mention that he made a mistake. I am just asking because I am actually trying to understand whether you presume or that’s a fact. If you presume, then my real concern starts…you presume because he still has not received any confirmation for the documents?
Question 3-
If that’s the case can I also presume that my case EU33XXX is also in a risky situation since I haven’t received any confirmation for my documents yet? I have checked and triple checked my documents and the format (pdf, photo scanned, officially translated, titled everywhere etc), and I can’t find any mistake. They actually all look pretty neat. However I still have not received any confirmation. And I contacted KCC in the beginning of June, I have been told that the cases are processed in order. So, I am confused. I am still waiting for June 23. Hopefully, it will work.
Bottomline, if you could only answer question 3 it would be enough for me. Please do not bother with opening lines, and question. I am just trying to understand your state of mind.
All the best. Thank you for your help.
June 11, 2020 at 21:58
The OP said that he was told his documents were not sent. And he said he sent it “again”. So somewhere there a mistake was made, either he didn’t send it, or he sent an incomplete set, or he sent it badly referenced. Something was wrong because they don’t have it and he thought they did. I am giving KCC the benefit of the doubt assuming they are “perfect” (they aren’t, but that is the best way to think), so the responsibility is his to make sure they have it. That is my mindset.
As for 3. Now everyone is in a risky situation. It’s not risky because of the ban (June 23) it’s risky because the embassies are closed and we are losing time. No 2NLs have been sent for July interviews (not because of the ban, but because the embassies are closed). So now we only have August and September available for interviews and that is *IF* they reopen very soon. In that case, rescheduled interviews (from March, April) will happen in July, and there are quite a number of cases ready for scheduling now. So – if your documents are not processed by now, you have almost no chance of an August interview and you need to have the documents approved by late June or very early July to get even a September interview. That is already very risky, but faced with a scenario where KCC have more cases ready for scheduling than they could handle in remaining months, they might even be forced to “retrogress” the VB number, meaning that some cases that are currently current will no longer be current.
DV2020 selectees are in trouble – and again, not through the ban, but because of the pandemic.
June 11, 2020 at 07:52
ohh, i see…! The scanned documents had not been sent he says.. That’s the mistake. O.k. My documents has been received though. So, what do you think?
– Wait and see?
– Yes
Thank you 🙂
June 10, 2020 at 21:02
Dear Simon,
Thank you so much for taking the time to read and answer our questions.
My mom is a DV 2021 selectee, father and sister are derivatives. They want to start filling the DS260 form but I realized that few years ago when they applied for a visa B-2 (tourism visa), the person that filled the DS160 forms (they hired someone because they don’t speak English and didn’t know how to complete the forms) made a mistake on answering the question: “Do you have relatives in the US?” The answer was NO, however at that time I (daughter) was in the US with a student visa (I came just months before they applied for their tourism visa).
Do you think this misinformation could affect their DV process?
I appreciate your help!
June 11, 2020 at 01:01
No.
June 11, 2020 at 02:46
Thank you Simon!
June 10, 2020 at 21:28
Hi Simon
Case number : 2020AF10XXX
I and 6 family members received visa on March 5, I moved to us on March 14 and on March 17, because of covid19, the borders of my country were closed. Do the embassy extend the visa of my family (wife and children) which will expire this June 20 ?
June 10, 2020 at 21:38
Sorry to interject on this query
But
Visa is valid for 6 months? on issuance – so should expire around September 2020, if, as you say, you received on March 5?
How can visa expire in only 3 months and 15 days ???????
Confusing – unless you can elaborate further how your family’s’ visa only has 3 months and 15 days?
June 11, 2020 at 01:05
Visas are set to expire 6 months after the medical date. Sometimes cases are on AP for a while.
June 11, 2020 at 00:29
Hi Simon,
I mistakenly add another applicant for my son who is over the age of 21 , how can I delete that application . Should I request to KCC by email to do that for me ?
June 11, 2020 at 01:42
No they won’t delete it – just leave it uncompleted.
June 11, 2020 at 01:04
They will AFTER the visa has expired.

Hello Brit , i’m Dv 2020 add number AF58xxx I have sent my documents to KCC first time in November later since march I have sent them multiple times, till now I didn’t receive any confirmation email from KCC . I have asked them many time but all the time same answer DS-260 had been processed that’s all . What you can advice me to do ?

If you were married at the time of entry you will be disqualified. Why did you lie?

Hello Brit, thanks for your help and all the informations you give us.
My questions :
1. My case number is 2021AF00040XXX, do i have a chance or not?
2.I’m single in the Moroccan law, but I’ve been married and divorced in Sweden this last couple months, but when i applied in the DV2021 i signed as I’m single “as my moroccan status” so now in the ds260 i should tell that I’ve been married in Sweden and divorced?
3. I can continue the process of my interview and application in Morocco if i went back, even I’m applied in Sweden?

1. It is too early to know for sure.
2. This is daft. You do not get to choose your “moroccan status”. You lied deliberately – and should be disqualified for it.
3. I don’t know what to say anymore. Truth matters.

Hello Brit From February 2019-December 2019 I have a formation in systems and network administration under Windows Server in an Academy. after the end of the game, Microsoft evaluates me, at the end of the 3 m exams, Microsoft issued me a certificate in network administration under Windows Server (My certificate is signed Satya Nadela.). Should I mention this formation in the DS260

Yes. It doesn’t help with meeting requirements but it may be useful for public charge concerns.

hi there! I got selected for the DV lottery visa 2021, my question is i have the Cambridge IGCSE OLevels (7 subjects) and 2 AS level certificates. Will that be sufficient for the education requirement? (granted i did not do that well i still passed them).
Thank you for all your help!!

I don’t know whether that meets the requirement in your country or not.

Hi Brit,

I have been unable to sign in into the form DS260! What is the problem pls help
June 11, 2020 at 01:57
Your number is very high. Why are you rushing to complete the DS260??? Wait until we know more whether that number will get a chance.
June 11, 2020 at 02:07
Hi Brit. Already got the email to submit documents. Filed for immigration 3 days ago. I heard it usually takes 3 months to hear back. It’s crazy how fast it’s happening this year. Does this mean I will have a low case number?
June 11, 2020 at 03:04
No. You already have your case number.
June 11, 2020 at 08:00
What do you mean. Where is it?
June 11, 2020 at 22:01
For goodness sake. YOu said you were asked to send documents. After sending a DS260 I assume??? Be clear, I’m too busy to try to read your mind.
June 11, 2020 at 08:24
I mean the number for the interview. Is it common to get the documents email in just a few days? I was expecting a long wait this year due to the pandemic
June 11, 2020 at 22:02
Still unclear. You don’t get another number for the interview.

Is there a better chance opting for adjustment of status vs consular processing as a dv 2021 lottery winner? I have a tourist visa and could fly to the states, but I have a high case number
June 11, 2020 at 03:05
You cannot enter the USA on a tourist visa with a plan to adjust status – that would be fraud and you would screw everything up.

Hi Simon, how are you?
I would like to ask your opinion about my CN #2021AS325XX. Thank you for your time.
June 11, 2020 at 03:06
It’s a high number. It will be a month or two before we know if you have a chance or not.
