I’ve gathered the Historical Visa Bulletin Numbers from various sources for a few years to give an idea of progression in previous years and I will maintain these numbers as future Visa Bulletins are released.
Knowing visa bulletin progression is sometimes a useful reference, and is certainly interesting. To use the data, click the tab for the region you are interested in and check the cutoff number for the month.
There may be some similarities with number progress from year to year, but there may not. So – don’t rely on these numbers as a predictive guide for this year. One thing that confuses people is that the selected numbers vary each year depending on entries and other factors. For instance, certain countries in the past have had huge entry numbers and once those countries are excluded from the lottery the range of numbers selected changes from one year to the next. That was the case in 2014 to 2015 in AF region when Nigeria was excluded, or in Asia in 2012 to 2013 when Bangladesh was excluded.
To understand how to read the Visa Bulletin works and can be read – please check out this article.
What does CURRENT mean? That is published when KCC believes that there are enough visas for all remaining demand. All case numbers can then be interviewed.
If you prefer a direct link to the data you can see that here.

May 10, 2016 at 13:32

Hi Simon,
I m glad to talk with you. My case is little complex. Our community compel to marry us. We marry forcefully. We marry in childhood(15 years old). The Maoist war influenced our marriage. Maoist leader compel to marry. We marry without social party or ceremony. When we lived together we got one children 9 years old. We don’t have marriage certificate and court record. Child birth certificate included our name. on the birth certificate of my Child my citizenship No is wrong and my name is correct. So in this case what will be the best solution? I entered as unmarried and I didn’t include my children name on my original entry. How can I include the name of my child? Or how ignore Children and Spouse? Please kindly give me suggestion. If I get solution I will meet you.
We are not living together about 10 years. We don’t like eachother. I was completely ruin. I live in another city and she is living village. What is the system to detect our relation of CO?
Thank you.

June 3, 2016 at 07:27
Hi again Brit,
Can you please tell me why has the numbers from 2012 to 2013 decreased in such a huge amount in Asia region? And is there even chances to decrease the number from that of 2016 to 2017?
June 3, 2016 at 13:58
Bangladesh became ineligible in DV2013. That reduced the allocated case numbers because so many applications were previously from there.
The numbers vary slightly each year.
June 3, 2016 at 16:09

September 2, 2016 at 07:54
Hi sir
Could you tell me about AP check please.
September 2, 2016 at 14:02
Tell you what?
September 2, 2016 at 17:45
Some visa applications are denied because they require further administrative processing(AP), which takes additional time after the visa applicant’s interview by a consular officer.
1- what about reason of this process?
2- If I get involved in this process, what about deadline of DV lottery. Maybe my document will be rejected?
September 3, 2016 at 00:00
1. Various reasons – mainly security background checks.
2. If they cannot clear the AP before the end of the fiscal year, you don’t get your Green Card.
September 3, 2016 at 07:18
Please consider that my visa application requires AP and during this process 50000 visas for this year is finished.
Is it possible?
September 3, 2016 at 07:34
It depends on the length of time for AP.
September 5, 2016 at 21:30

September 12, 2016 at 05:19
Good day dear,
I hope this mail finds you well ,
my family and I are dv 2016 winners and we are from Congo but living in south Africa, our case number is 2016AF40XXXX, we already pass our interview on July 5th 2016 and we were told at the US consulate that they are going to give us feedback in 3 weeks or a month time but it is almost 2 months and we haven’t heard anything from them…. Do you think we still have a chance for a visa? Because soon they are going to close 2016 cases. Your advise will be much appreciated, stay blessed
September 12, 2016 at 15:32
I have no way to pluck an educated answer out of thin air. I cannot predict what will happen in your case.
September 13, 2016 at 13:48

September 15, 2016 at 23:29
Hi simon, i received a email and said check your status , i have checked and selected for the 2017 dv lottery.i am from nepal but my case number is little high like AS000080xx…any chances to be selected for the next steps or not … what is the highest as xxxx numbers are selected for the DV..many thanks
September 15, 2016 at 23:52
I can’t say for sure. Last year the numbers stopped at 7100 – so 8XXX is high. There is really no way to be certain other than waiting.
September 16, 2016 at 11:23
HI brit…thank you for your reply, last year data shows 76xx but this year it its going on till 10xxx , it means all asia or only from nepal case number till 76xx..many thanks
September 16, 2016 at 14:05
In DV2016 Nepal was stopped at 7100 while Asia went current (meaning all numbers were interviewed, except Nepal high numbers)
September 16, 2016 at 16:45
Hi Brit..so you mean for the 2017 also very less chance to interview up to 8100…how they calculated 7% for each country..many thanks ..
September 16, 2016 at 22:17
Yes, I think there is a risk for high Nepal numbers.
The 7% is a max LIMIT fopr any one country. Not an allocation. The 7% is based on the available visas – so y could assume 7% of 50,000 = 3500 (although in practice the 50k number is sometimes exceeded).
September 18, 2016 at 06:52
Hi brit, for 2017, Case number 69XX for Nepal is in high risk ?

September 23, 2016 at 02:20
I don’t know whether it will be too high.
September 23, 2016 at 11:13
Dear Brit,
I wish to express my appreciation for your help throughout my visa application process. My Visa is finally issued after being put on 221g, now preparing to travel to the United states.
No doubt, the journey would have been tougher , were it not for people like you who God sends to guide his creation.
Thank you very much,
Margaret.
September 23, 2016 at 13:04
Congratulations!
October 1, 2016 at 13:30
Hi brit…is there any difference between first draw and second draw..like if some one selected in first draw in high case number and if some one selected in second draw as little high number ..how they called for second letter as per the case number or the first draw finished first then second draw ..could you explain please many thanks
October 1, 2016 at 15:47
There is no difference apart from the numbers of the second draw started from where the numbers from the first draw ended. So – let’s say a region had a highest case in the first draw of 1115. The second draw would have started with case number 1116. So – the 1st draw numbers are lower – and thereby go first.
December 7, 2016 at 06:47
Hi Margaret, Sorry for the question? My case is on 221g, how long they took to issue your visas after you submitted your documents?
October 5, 2016 at 19:56
HI brit ..as you have said earlier nepalese selectees for the year of 2017 are 4000. so some case number is 7000, some 7800 , some 8000 and may i know among the 4000 selectees what is the highest case number for the nepalese selectees among 4000. many thanks
October 5, 2016 at 20:58
The highest Nepalese numbers from the first draw were around 7600 and for the second draw the highest numbers were around 8600.
October 6, 2016 at 19:00
Hi brit ..you mean there is one thousand extra selectees in the second draws from Nepal…thank you
October 6, 2016 at 19:48
No. 1000 additional CASE NUMBERS. Which probably means around 500 people.
October 7, 2016 at 07:47
Hi Brit,
I’m the winner of DV2017 but not fill the DS260 yet. I hold a ten years B1/B2 Visa now. If My DV interview fail, is it affect my B1/B2 Visa?? Thks
October 7, 2016 at 13:47
No
October 7, 2016 at 17:58
Hi Brit,

October 13, 2016 at 11:19
Hi Brit Simon, I have read through everything that is needed for the interview, medicals, police records etc… The only thing where I can’t find any details is proof that we have enough money £10,000 (I think it was) there is nothing about bringing proof of funds, at what point do we need to show this?
My second question (please don’t be cross) but can you just confirm for me that it is 100% ok to enter for DV 2018 even if we have been selected for DV 2017?, I want to apply just incase there are any problems with visa’s running out or anything, I know you say that you can on the website but I just want to make sure!
Thank you!
October 13, 2016 at 15:40
1. At the interview, if asked. https://britsimonsays.com/all-about-public-charge-affidavit-of-support-i-134/
2. Yes – confirmed.
October 18, 2016 at 10:06
Hello Brit,
First off I would like to thank you for all of your responses to everyones Q’s! I am sure this is very time consuming, I would like to express my appreciation.
I applied for the 2017DV Visa, I am from Iran. I was not selected the first time, but received an email to check my status again sometime in September 2016. When I did, I was informed I had been chosen. I quickly submitted my application and was given a number close to 2017AS000080xx. I have read through your comments about Nepal having a cutoff lower than that #, but I haven’t seen much in regards to IRANs cut offs in previous years. I know Iran is similar to Nepal and have a very high number of applicants. Based on past statistics and maybe your predictions for this year (2017), do you think I have a chance to be interviewed with a number in the low 8000s and being from Iran?
Thank you very much!
October 18, 2016 at 14:19
Iran won’t hit the 7% limit before your number. Enough Iranian cases get refused or delayed to make that not a problem. The problem you might have is the extended period of AP that most Iranian cases have. The AP lasts 4 to 5 months, so a late number like yours would not have time to clear AP. So, if you have any military or government history, the risk of AP is high.
October 18, 2016 at 20:52
Thank you. I am a young female student, currently living in Canada, (born in Iran), with no government or military history. By extended AP, you mean additional administrative processing which will be required after the initial interview is over? I am assuming they are more strict with Iranian applicants and require further documents etc, which will push someone like me over the September 2017 deadline.. I hope I am lucky enough to get an interview date sometime in the summer, and ever luckier to have all required documents at hand..!
November 26, 2016 at 16:41
Hi Simon
i am a 2017 winner and i submitted my case July 4, 2016 and assume that my 2NL will be February but i have some problem. The person who play for me have my information too and added someone on my case without my approval but did not submit it and i have close my case. can i remove that added name from my case or will it curse any problem at interview
November 26, 2016 at 17:50
You cannot remove that person. You will be asked at interview about it – I don’t know if it will cause a problem.
December 10, 2016 at 08:59
hi dear Simon, did Visa bulletin for month of January already released? My CN is just near to 150** AF, Ethiopia
probably, when I may begin in advance to request police clearance document?
December 10, 2016 at 15:09
The VB should be released early next week. You can apply for police certs then.
December 10, 2016 at 10:12

January 4, 2017 at 08:37
Dear Sir
Dear Sir/Madam
I got the result from your Authorized Web site on 3rd of May and first Submission on 8th of May & reopened and submission on august 5th .according the visa bulletin my interview will come to November. Still not received the interview
1. May i know why is delay of my application
2.still not get the 2nl Letter any Problem will Come ?
3. when will i expect the 2nl letter ?
January 4, 2017 at 13:07
my case number is AS00002000
January 4, 2017 at 15:29
So it seems like your case neededadditional time – either because of unlocking (and what you added) OR because of your background checks needing longer time.
January 4, 2017 at 15:21
What is your region/case number?
Also country of chargeability?
What did you alter in August?
January 5, 2017 at 11:40
1.2017AS00002400
2.srilanka
3.sir, my Name discrepancy with my educational certificate only (a letter mistake ). that is why i took new passport then reopened in august and update the new passport.
January 5, 2017 at 13:24
So you added a new passport which had a different name. That obviously would have caused some additional background checking. That is the reason for the delay.
January 5, 2017 at 12:56
dear sir
any rejection will come ?
only i added My new Passport
January 5, 2017 at 13:25
They never reject cases before the interview.
January 5, 2017 at 13:53
when will i expect the 2nl letter
can i write to email to KCC that what is stage of my Case
January 5, 2017 at 14:00
You can write to KCC to ask.
January 4, 2017 at 15:24
Hello! Thank you for this helpful chart. My number is around 830 in the Oceania region and should be called in the next few months. Based off your chart, will I get the call for the interview on the estimated dates above or will that be when the interview is? For example the 800’s look to be around march. Will that be when I get the call for the interview or will I get the call in feb and be given a 6 week lead up to March? I only ask because I live in the states right now on a J1 and would need to sort flights back home.
January 4, 2017 at 15:35
Don’t book flights until you get the 2NL. It also depends on your submission date. March interviews are notified in late January. The VB number for OC is at 725 right now (for February interviews). I suspect 830 ish will be April interviews – and only if you submitted your DS260 early enough.
January 10, 2017 at 06:04
‘and only if you submitted your DS260 early enough’ – can you go in to this a bit more? What will happen if it was a late submission?
January 10, 2017 at 06:12
As I expected the March OC number is under your number so it means an April interview at the earliest. A late DS260 submission means a delayed (not cancelled, delayed) interview. So – if you submitted in August or earlier you should be OK for April interviews. If you submitted your DS260 much later than that you might get current (by your case number) but be delayed waiting for the DS260 to be processed.
January 5, 2017 at 17:15
Hi Brit,I’m asking for Background checks: Background checks is it proportionate to number of person applying on DS 260 Form ? I mean if there is one person(principal applicant) in the DS260 Form,he would be schedule an appointment interview later than a family composed of 4 person due to this Background checks.
January 5, 2017 at 17:33
No.
January 19, 2017 at 20:35
Simon, considering the previous backlog, to what extent do you think the VB will increase particularly for Asia for next month?
January 19, 2017 at 20:38
I don’t know.
January 25, 2017 at 02:05
my case number is 2017As000020** . i didnt received my 2nd letter till now however i locked my ds260 lately.
February 2, 2017 at 22:36
As per https://www.uscis.gov/news/questions-and-answers/vaccination-requirements , I have to get all the vaccines listed. However, when I go look at the ACIP recommendations (on https://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/hcp/acip-recs/) they are a LOT. Am I required to do ALL those? It seems excessive so I’m not sure it’s right.
February 3, 2017 at 03:29
No. The doctor at the medical will decide what you need.
February 8, 2017 at 20:41
Please where can i check for my interview letter. I mean which link to check.
Secondly what’s the difference between the address where my green card will be posted to and my sponsor?
Thirdly do i need someone to sponsor me?
February 8, 2017 at 23:18
1. ESC page – same place you saw your selected letter
2. Your GC will be sent to the US address you gave on the DS260
3. Sometimes. https://britsimonsays.com/all-about-public-charge-affidavit-of-support-i-134/

Hi brit sir
I just got confused regarding the vb for asia why the feb and march number is same its 4700 does it means that april vb will be only limited to 4700 as i am worried cause mine is 49xx.
February 20, 2017 at 22:56
It means you have to wait some more.
February 25, 2017 at 21:07
Hi Brit:
when will letters for April be sent.
February 25, 2017 at 21:09
Next few days (not the weekend)
March 8, 2017 at 17:10
Hello Simon,
Thanks for the info! I noticed that you don’t post the April’s numbers in advance like the department of state does. Is there a particular reason for that?
March 8, 2017 at 17:26
I haven’t updated yet, that’s all.
March 9, 2017 at 20:18
Hello Brit,
the new Visa Bulletin is just out and it says “current” for all chargability areas
what does that mean ?
won’t there be any new cut off numbers after the ones that were already shown in April VB?
March 9, 2017 at 20:33
It means ALL cases (apart from the countries mentioned) will be interviewed.

Greetings Simon,
I misspelled my Surname on the eDv application form as NARDISSA, as written on my educational certificate; while it is spelled as NERDISA on my passport. Now I’ve been notified that I won the lottery 2018, but wanted to sort out this problem before I fill out the DS260. Please advice on the best course of action. Thank you.

Enter the DS260 with the correct name.

Sir, the correct surname is the Passport name. But it is different from the e-dv application name; wouldnt that be a problem? Thank you.

Your DS260 should match the passport. That is the best fix.

Hello,
Once again, thanks for your time and your work.
I’m not sure to understand correctly these numbers.
For example, for my case. I’m EU29XXX, if I had this number during previous years, I would have been selected every year, that is right?
What means defacto current for 2016, please?
Thank you one more time.

Your number is fine. Relax.
